PELTON WHEEL TURBINE TEST RIG 5HP:
  • The apparatus consists of a small Pelton wheel connected to rope brake. Water is supplied to turbine by centrifugal pump. Water flow is measured by a Venturimeter and a mercury manometer. Water jet is directed over the buckets by a nozzle & a spear operating inside the nozzle controls the water flow. Thus the students can visualize the operation & estimate B. H. P & W. H. P and various efficiencies of Pelton Turbine.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1) Pelton Wheel – Fitted with n18 buckets, nozzle for water jet, spear arrangement and casing with one side of Perspex sheet, developing 5HP at 750rpm.
  • 2) Water supply pump to supply the water at the head of 62 meters, 15 Hp capacity, monoblock, ‘ISI’ mark ‘Kirloskar’ make
  • 3) Venturi with mercury manometer to measure water flow rate.
  • 4) Pressure gauge to measure the head.

  • The unit consists of Francis Turbine coupled to rope brake dynamometer.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Francis Turbine is designed to develop 5HP at 1500 RPM with a flow of 2000 LPM at 15 meters supply head, complete with rope brake arrangement, pressure & Vacuum Gauges for conducting experiments.
  • 2. Piping system consisting of pipes, valves and fittings complete set suitable for the Francis Turbine Test Rig.
  • 3. Supply pump set 15HP ‘Kirloskar’ make suitable for supplying water to the above turbine.
  • 4. Star delta starter suitable for the above motor pump set.
  • 5. Flow measuring unit consisting of Venturi meter and mercury manometer.

  • The unit consists of Vertical shaft Kaplan turbine test rig.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Vertical shift Kaplan turbine designed to develop 5HP at 1500 rpm, complete set with a flow of 500LPM at 5mtr. Supply head, complete with rope brake arrangement, pressure measuring device, dead weights or electrical loading with energy meter for conducting experiments in S.I units.
  • 2. Piping system consisting of pipes, Valves and fittings complete set for the Kaplan turbine test rig.
  • 3. Flow measuring unit consisting of venturi meter and a double column differential manometer with stand.
  • 4. Supply pump set for the above consisting of pump of size 250mm to discharge 6000LPM at 8m total head coupled with a 15HP motor suitable for operation on 3 phase 50cycles 440V AC supply.
  • 5. Switch and starter for the above pump set.
  • 6. Rigid mild steel frame work, compactly fitted with all the above items as a self sufficient package unit, suitable for operation without any foundation.

  • The apparatus consists of supply piping connected to a transparent venturi and an orifice. The tapings are provided to measure the pressure difference across venturi and orifice which are connected to a differential manometer. The actual flow rate can be measured with the help of measuring tank and both the meters can be calibrated.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Basic piping - 20mm.size G. I. pipe.
  • 2. Transparent orifice and venturi provided with pressure tappings, connected in parallel.
  • 3. Differential mercury manometer.
  • 4. Flow control valves for both.
  • 5. Measuring tank and stop watch (not provided for H.L.T. type.)
  • 6. Sump tank and recirculating pump for I.R. type equipment.
  • A technical manual accompanies the equipments. The equipment can be supplied in conventional type. Individual recirculating type with our recirculation pump or common recirculating type, suitable for use with hydraulic laboratory tray (HLT).

  • The unit consists of a supply tank to which orifice or mouthpiece can be fitted. The tank is provided with flow settling arrangement. A tracer pointer is provided at the discharge of orifice to demonstrate and to determine X-Y co-ordinates of jet. Arrangement is provided to vary and measure the head over orifice or mouthpiece. A fixture is provided for orifice or mouthpiece fitting which can easily adopt both. Thus, students can determine Cd, Cc, & Cv of orifice as well as Cd of mouthpiece.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Set of orifices 8mm and 10 mm dia.
  • 2. Set of mouthpieces 12 mm dia, converging mouthpiece, board’s mouthpiece.
  • 3. Tracer point with scale to measure the X and Y co-ordinates of the jet.

  • This apparatus provides study of loss of head in various pipe fittings. The apparatus consists of piping provided with a various fittings. A differential manometer supplied to measure the loss of head inthese fittings. A flow control valve is provided which enables experimentation at various flow rates.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1) Basic piping of 15mm. and 25mm G.I. pipe.
  • 2) Pipe fittings provided – a) Pipe elbow b) Pipe bend c) Sudden expansion. d) Sudden contraction of flow.
  • 3) Differential manometer with suitable connections and air purging cocks.
  • 4) Flow control valve.

  • The test rig consists of a two stage centrifugal pump provided with three phase motor. The pump is provided with vacuum gauge at suction & a pressure gauge on discharge pipe. The pump is a monoblock provided with a gate valve at discharge, which facilitates estimation of pump performance at various discharge heads. Power input to motor is measured with energy meter. The unit is recirculating type & totally self contained one.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1) Centrifugal pump – Monoblock, ‘ISI’ mark, ‘Kirloskar’ make, 2”×2” size, 2 stage pump with 5HP. 3phase induction motor.
  • 2) Sump tank -900×900×750mm height.

  • The test rig consists of reciprocating pump mounted over the sump tank, the unit is self contained, recirculating type provided with vacuum gauge at suction and pressure gauge at discharge. A gate valve on delivery pipe controls the head. Input to motor & Output of Pump can be measured and pump performance can be estimated at different speeds by means of and at different heads.

FLOW OVER NOTCHES APPARATUS
  • The apparatus consists of a flow channel in which the notch is fitted. Water is supplied at one end of channel, which flows over the notch. A setting chamber with dampers is provided at the beginning of flow channel to reduce the pulsations and to settle the flow. Arrangement is provided to measure the sill level of water and flow level to determine the head. A measuring tank measures the water flow. Thus the notches can be calibrated.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Flow channel -250mm × 200mm; section, suitable length, with easy notch fitting fixture.
  • 2. Notches – a) 60º included angle ‘V’ notch, 75mm. deep. -b) Rectangular notch -75mm × 50mm. The notches are made of brass.
  • 3. Hook gauge to measure the head, over the notch and sill level.
  • 4. Measuring tank & stop watch (not provided with H.L.T. type equipments.)

HYDRAULIC JUMP APPARATUS

HYDRAULIC JUMP APPARATUS
  • The tilting flume is designed to conduct various experiments at various bed slopes from 1 in 25 in upstream to 1 in 25 on downstream. The flume has a perspex window to visualize the flow over models fixed in flume. The flume is provided with gates on upstream & downstream side to control the flow. Students can thus conduct the experiments and also visualize the flow.
  • SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 1, Flume - Cross section 200 wide x 300 mm. deep for length 2.5 m, 4 m and 6 meters, and 300 wide x 450 deep for length 8 and 10 meters - provided with sliding gates, one at upstream and one at downstream side & flow settling chamber at inlet. Screw jack at downstream side to change slope of bed from 1 in 25 in upstream to 1 in 25 in downstream and scale.
